Photo and signature size for SSC, IBPS, UPSC and NEET forms (2026)
Updated 26 October 2026
In 2026, SSC takes your photo live in the form and only needs a 10–20 KB signature, IBPS PO wants a 200 × 230 pixel photo of 20–50 KB, UPSC accepts 20–300 KB files of 350–1000 pixels, and NEET wants a 10–200 KB photo with your face filling 80% of it. Each exam's notice is the final word, so check yours before uploading.

SSC: the photo is taken live
SSC's 2026 notices (CGL, CHSL and others) say you don't need an existing photo: the application form takes your photo with your webcam or phone camera while you fill it in. Photographing an old photo gets the form rejected. Sit facing a light in front of a plain wall, take off your cap and spectacles, and look straight at the camera.
The signature is still uploaded: a JPEG of 10–20 KB, about 6.0 cm wide and 2.0 cm high. Blurred or tiny signatures are rejected.
IBPS: four files, all with exact sizes
IBPS PO/MT-XVI asks for a photo (200 × 230 pixels, 20–50 KB), a signature (140 × 60 pixels, 10–20 KB, not in capital letters), a left thumb impression (240 × 240 pixels, 20–50 KB) and a handwritten declaration (800 × 400 pixels, 50–100 KB, in English, in your own handwriting). It also captures a live photo with your webcam or phone.
UPSC: three signatures in one image
UPSC's online form takes JPG files of 20–300 KB, between 350 × 350 and 1000 × 1000 pixels. For the signature, sign three times, one below the other, on plain white paper in black ink, and upload all three as one image. UPSC also captures a live photo during the form.
NEET (UG): face 80% of the photo, white background
The NEET (UG) 2026 bulletin asks for a recent passport size photo (taken after 1 January 2026), colour or black and white, with your face filling 80% of it, ears visible, on a white background and without a mask: JPG, 10–200 KB. The signature is 10–100 KB.
What gets photos and signatures rejected
- Wrong size in KB or pixels, or the wrong format (use JPG/JPEG).
- Blurred, dark or tiny images, and signatures that are hard to read.
- Caps, dark glasses, masks, shadows on the face, or a busy background.
- A photo of a photo, or an edited, filtered or AI-generated photo.
- Signatures in capital letters where the notice forbids it (IBPS).
Make a clear signature file
Sign on plain white paper with a black ink pen, a little larger than usual, so the lines stay clear after the file is shrunk. Photograph it in daylight with the phone held flat above the page, or scan it, then crop tightly around the signature so there's no empty paper, table edge or shadow in the picture.
Sign the way you will sign at the exam centre. IBPS's notice says that if your signature on the attendance sheet or call letter doesn't match the uploaded one, you will be disqualified. For UPSC, sign three times, one below the other, on the same sheet before you photograph it.
Check the size before you upload
A file's size in KB is shown in its details: on Windows, right-click the file and choose Properties; on Android, open it in the Files app and tap the details or info button; on an iPhone, long-press the file in the Files app and choose Get Info. Its width and height in pixels are shown in the same place.
Forms don't all count a kilobyte the same way: some use 1,000 bytes and some 1,024. A file right at the edge of the range, such as exactly 20 KB, can be accepted by one form and rejected by another, so aim for the middle of the range.
Before you press submit
- Open each uploaded file in the form's preview and check it is the right one: photo in the photo box, signature in the signature box.
- Zoom in: your face, and every letter of your signature, should be sharp.
- Make sure the signature, thumb impression and declaration are your own: IBPS says they must not be made by anyone else.
- Keep copies of the final files and the photo you used, in case you need them again later in the process.
